2024, gratitude & opportunity

In 2023 we popped up at Share Fair and nurtured our bilingual learning program at Skinner City Community Garden. Mountain Rose Herbs continued hosting our workshops at their Mercantile annex and the Free Herbalism Project. We provided wellness supplies to folks with covid as we have done throughout the pandemic, partnered with Huerto de la Familia miembros to make fire cider at the Churchill garden and, thanks to Michael Blair at the Human Path, sponsored one person to attend a beginning herbalism course delivered in Spanish. We survived the speed bumps of health issues thanks to community support and awesome volunteer dedication!

This year we’re working to expand our relationships with underserved folks, nurture the garden project and add free mobile clinic to our offerings. Stay tuned for ways you can participate – or maybe you have something to offer that we need to hear about?

To those who reached out and waited patiently during our longish response time, our sincere apologies. To those who persisted and those who continued generous support of our various projects, we are humbled and grateful for your enduring generosity.

We look forward to another year of health, collaboration and opportunities to serve our community.

A thousand thanks!

Fire Cider Workshop 2022

Did you know that HWBEugene offers a donation-based class on the last Sunday of every month?

This month’s class is a hands-on Fire Cider Workshop. You will learn why fire cider is a staple for herbalists around the world! Take part in a hands-on workshop to learn how to make your own, and get a sample to take home with you.

Where: 152 W 5th Ave., Eugene Oregon, in the Mountain Rose Herbs Annex (Next to the Mercantile)
When: Sunday, October 30th from 1-3pm

* Sliding-scale donations are welcome to help offset the costs of the class, but anyone is welcome to attend, even if they are unable to donate. Herbalists Without Borders Eugene is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization and every dollar goes toward the cost of making more quality herbal products that are distributed for free. Please note that remedies made during this workshop will be provided to underserved folks in our community, so please plan to mask up.

Event Postponed

The Community Health Fair has been postponed until further notice due to the exponential rise in COVID-19 and Delta variant cases. Stay up to date to know when we will reschedule this event.

August Update

Thank you to the good folks of the Asian Celebration for inviting us to participate. We made some great new friends!

Also: The Herbalists Without Borders Eugene Chapter August meeting will be Monday August 9, 6:00pm at TreeStead. Contact us to inquire about attending by zoom.

What’s a pandemic without a little solidarity?

Since putting together the relief supplies for the Diné Nation’s devastating bouts of coronavirus last year, we’ve been busy!

Wellness care packs for Huerto Junta Days 2021

We’ve been:

Organizing inventory.

Providing custom care packages to sick Latinx families..

Collaborated in February with Huerto de la Familia to provide 167 wellness packs for their member families during their annual garden registration events.

We’ve received a seed grant from HWB headquarters.

Most recently, we’ve partnered with Huerto to begin developing a bilingual outdoor herbalism classroom at Skinner City Farm. We are very excited to pull the blanket off of that bed and dig in with fresh enthusiasm!

Herbalists Without Borders Community Response Project gathers relief supplies and reports: In Solidarity with the Navajo Nation and to all oppressed…

June 2020

Hey Folks!

As many likely know, stark disparities exist in the impact of Covid-19 on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). This systematic racism and classism results in dramatically disproportionate rates of infection and death from Covid-19 among these communities. For example, data from former months from the Arizona department of health services reported that Native Americans make up 16% of the state’s Covid-19 related deaths, despite representing only 6% of the state’s population. These disparities are much more likely than the data suggests.

In the interest of sharing some of the awesome work our team is doing, below is the complete list of medicines that were just shipped to the Diné/Navajo Nation in Arizona as part of our local solidarity efforts with the Diné!

While we know we can’t undo 500 years of Eurocolonial and post-colonial oppression and genocide committed against these peoples, we’re proud to stand in solidarity.

Strength and resilience to all in these trying times,

HWBCRP Team
